Bone Morphogenetic Protein 7 in Dormancy and Metastasis of Prostate Cancer Stem-Like Cells in Bone
In this study, researchers demonstrate that bone morphogenetic protein 7 secreted from bone stromal cells induces senescence in prostate cancer stem-like cells by activating p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase and increasing expression of the cell cycle inhibitor, p21, and the metastasis suppressor gene, N-myc downstream-regulated gene 1. [J Exp Med] Abstract

Butein Induces Apoptosis and Inhibits Prostate Tumor Growth In Vitro and In Vivo
Here, researchers determined the effect of an antioxidant butein on cell-growth, apoptosis and signaling pathways in human prostate cancer cells in vitro and on tumor growth in athymic nude mice. [Antioxid Redox Signal] Abstract

Systematic Knockdown of Epigenetic Enzymes Identifies a Novel Histone Demethylase Plant Homeo Domain-Finger Protein 8 Overexpressed in Prostate Cancer with an Impact on Cell Proliferation, Migration and Invasion
Here, researchers carried out a systematic, genome-wide analysis of the functional significance of 615 epigenetic proteins in prostate cancer cells. [Oncogene] Abstract

MicroRNA Let-7c Suppresses Androgen Receptor Expression and Activity via Regulation of Myc Expression in Prostate Cancer Cells
This study demonstrates that the microRNA let-7c plays an important role in regulation of androgen signaling in prostate cancer by downregulating androgen receptor expression. [J Biol Chem] Abstract

Androgens Regulate Hedgehog Signaling and Proliferation in Androgen-Dependent Prostate Cells
Here researchers investigated the direct role of androgen signaling on the hedgehog (Hh) pathway, and examine the effect of dihydrosterone, antiandrogen, bicalutamide and Hh pathway inhibitor, KAAD-cyclopamine in four human prostate cell lines. [Int J Cancer] Abstract

L-Mimosine Blocks Cell Proliferation via Upregulation of B-Cell Translocation Gene 2 and N-Myc Downstream Regulated Gene 1 in Prostate Carcinoma Cells
Researchers evaluated the molecular mechanisms of L-mimosine on cell cycle modulation in PC-3 and LNCaP prostate carcinoma cells. [Am J Physiol Cell Physiol] Abstract

Overexpression of the VSSC-Associated CAM, β-2, Enhances LNCaP Cell Metastasis Associated Behavior
Researchers hypothesize that prostate cancer (PCa) cells use voltage sensitive sodium channel (VSSC) β-subunits as cell adhesion molecules (CAMs) during PCa progression and metastasis. [Prostate] Abstract

Early Growth Response 1 and Fatty Acid Synthase Expression Is Altered in Tumor Adjacent Prostate Tissue and Indicates Field Cancerization
In this study, immunofluorescence data was analyzed quantitatively by spectral imaging and linear unmixing to determine the protein expression levels of early growth response 1 and fatty acid synthase in human cancerous, histologically normal adjacent, and disease-free prostate tissues. [Prostate] Abstract

Secretory Phospholipase A2-IIa Is a Target Gene of the HER/HER2-Elicited Pathway and a Potential Plasma Biomarker for Poor Prognosis of Prostate Cancer
In this current study, researchers explored the underlying mechanism of secretory phospholipases A2 group IIa (sPLA2-IIa) overexpression and the potential role of sPLA2-IIa as a prostate cancer biomarker. [Prostate] Abstract

Molecular Classification of Prostate Cancer Using Curated Expression Signatures
In an effort to understand molecular signatures associated with poor outcome in prostate cancer, scientists analyzed a microarray dataset characterizing 281 prostate cancers from a Swedish watchful-waiting cohort. [Proc Natl Acad Sci USA] Abstract

A Phase III Trial of Docetaxel-Estramustine in High-Risk Localized Prostate Cancer: A Planned Analysis of Response, Toxicity and Quality of Life in the GETUG 12 Trial
The aim of this study was to assess docetaxel-estramustine in patients with localized high-risk prostate cancer. [Eur J Cancer] Abstract

AIM1 Promoter Hypermethylation as a Predictor of Decreased Risk of Recurrence following Radical Prostatectomy
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the prognostic significance of six epigenetic biomarkers (AIM1, CDH1, KIF1A, MT1G, PAK3, and RBM6 promoter hypermethlation) in a homogeneous group of prostate cancer patients, following radical prostatectomy. [Prostate] Abstract

The Altered Expression of MiR221/-222 and MiR23b/-27b Is Associated with the Development of Human Castration Resistant Prostate Cancer
To determine the clinical relevance of the expression patterns of seven previously identified microRNAs (miRs), researchers compared the expression levels of these miRs in normal prostate tissues from 86 individuals, prostate tumor tissues from 34 individuals with localized hormone naïve disease, and bone-derived metastatic castration resistant prostate cancer tissues from 17 individuals. [Prostate] Abstract
